Lone Star Makes An Appearance
April 4, 2006 – 10:26 pmLone Star bills itself as “The National Beer of Texas”, and I pretty much grew up on it when I lived in Texas. I went to Beverages and More the other day here in Pasadena, and while perusing their beers, I was shocked to find a six pack of Lone Star. I hadn’t seen it outside of Texas before, but I hadn’t really been looking for it either.
I bought a six pack of it for $4 and saved it for tonight’s Taco Tuesday meal as a surprise for the guys. It was kind of a weak surprise in the sense that Lone Star isn’t a great beer, but it’s a beer that’s near and dear to my heart. I was sharing part of myself tonight. And it went over rather well.
Lone Star is a lot like other domestic macro lagers such as Miller High Life, Miller Lite, Coors Light, or Bud Light. It’s brewed by the Pabst Brewing Company, so how can you go wrong with that? Lone Star has a bit of an after taste that the others lack. It’s hard to describe it as anything other than “skunky”. Unfortunately “skunky” has a horrible connotation, and I don’t mean to imply that the beer tastes bad, but the taste does linger in a noticeable way.
Regardless, we had another successful Taco Tuesday, and Lone Star is a very worthy companion to the cheap tacos and burritos. Adam supplemented the six pack of Lone Star with a case of Miller High Life and a six pack of the Copperhook, one of the ales from Redhook. Hopefully someone will write about that one soon.

I’m planning on writing about Copperhook this weekend.
